Donating blood

The Red Cross is experiencing an emergency blood shortage due to the lowest donation levels the organization has seen in 20 years.
People who want to donate blood must be in good health and meet weight and height requirements. People must be 17 or 16 with parental consent and weigh at least 110 pounds. People can be excluded if they are sick, taking antibiotics, have a high fever, or due to other medical factors.
The following locations will be open in Lane County for blood donations in January:
- Kidsports at 2054 Amazon Pkwy in Eugene on Jan. 9 will be accepting donations 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- St. Mary Catholic Church at 1062 Charnelton Street in Eugene on Jan. 18 will be accepting donations 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 1155 Presidents Street in Eugene on Jan. 22 will be accepting donations 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Holiday Inn Express at 2117 Franklin Blvd in Eugene on Jan. 22 will be accepting donations 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Valley River Center at 293 Valley River Center in Eugene on Jan. 24 will be accepting donations noon to 6 p.m.
- EVEN Hotel at 2133 Centennial Plaza in Eugene on Jan. 30 will be accepting donations noon to 5 p.m.
