KRVM has historically received approximately 20 percent of our annual revenue as grants from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). More specific information is below, but the bottom line is this: The loss of that CPB funding can only be replaced by local, direct donations from our listeners. If you are already a member, thank you! If you enjoy KRVM programming and want to support what we do for you and the rest of the community, please become a financial supporter today.

Details about the loss of Corporation for Public Broadcasting grants, and the impact on KRVM:
What happened?
Congress voted to “claw-back” $1.1 billion in funding that was already appropriated for CPB for use the next two fiscal years, that was to have been distributed to more than 1300 local public stations, plus NPR and PBS. Federal support of public broadcasting started in 1967, and has been continuous with bi-partisan support until now.
How much is KRVM losing in grant funding?
We received $186,784 from CPB during our Fiscal Year 2025, which ended June 30th. We anticipated a similar grant amount each year moving forward, but we are now slated to received ZERO CPB funding for FY26 and FY27.
Where are the sources of KRVM funding, and what does/did CPB grant funding cover locally?
KRVM has revenue from three main sources: Listener memberships (40%), Business Underwriting (40%), and CPB Grants (20%). CPB funding is used to defray general operating expenses (tower site leases, equipment purchases and maintenance, electricity, engineering expenses, etc.), and cover what would otherwise be losses operating transmitters in Oakridge, Florence, and Reedsport/Coos Bay. One main purpose of CPB funding is to ensure that rural areas have coverage to receive local emergency alerts and other timely community information. Rural areas are not served reliably by commercial radio stations, due to the population base being too small to profitably operate.
How can KRVM replace that funding and maintain current levels of service, and operation of six transmitters?
The majority of the increased local funding will need to come from individual member donors. Currently, less than 10% of the listening audience financially supports KRVM. (note: that level of local support for public radio stations is consistent across the country). To completely replace the lost funds would require membership participation by approximately 15% of listeners.
How can the local communities served by KRVM help?
Current members can keep giving (perhaps increasing the amount of each donation), listeners who are not yet members can begin contributing, and everyone who benefits from and enjoys KRVM programming can recruit new listeners and members for the station by spreading the word and encouraging donations.
