When he started his radio career in 1978, all Jim Nelson wanted to do was be on the air playing great music for fellow music lovers. He got his wish, spending more than 11 years as a fulltime DJ in Los Angeles at public radio KCSN and doing weekends for a while at KCAL-FM in San Bernardino, California.
Mostly, though, he worked behind the scenes at KLOS, KTWV, and KWST in Los Angeles, and several other jobs within the national radio industry, including many years working at syndicated radio shows Rockline (technical director), and PowerCuts (producer/writer) and In The Studio (coproducer/writer).
Nelson has spent three-plus decades as a writer (Paste, Performing Songwriter, RIP, and Request magazines, and the Oregon Track Club newsletter) and a decade and a half as an editor/writer at radio publications The Album Network, Radio & Records and Triplearadio.com.
He is a lifelong, diehard student/fan of baseball and his days as a competitive runner began half a century ago (which is one of the countless reasons he’s thrilled to now call Eugene home).
