KRVM has a unique history as the non-commercial, public radio station of Eugene School District 4J. The first words ever spoken on FM radio in the Pacific Northwest were spoken on KRVM — the date was December 6, 1947.
Over the years, KRVM FM’s format has evolved but the station continues to offer students the opportunity to be involved with the day-to-day operation of a radio station. KRVM FM serves as a radio classroom-on-the-air, offering hands-on practicum experience to students from area schools.
KRVM FM 91.9 is a listener-supported, music format station. KRVM FM serves a loyal audience throughout western Oregon with a wide variety of musical programs supported by listener members and area businesses who understand the importance of public radio to the community.
In addition, KRVM AM 1280 airs a News and Talk format, carrying the programming of Jefferson Public Radio. KRVM AM also broadcasts Eugene School District 4J board and budget meetings. Meetings are recorded and posted here.
KRVM is dedicated to community service. KRVM serves the communities of Eugene, Springfield and the outlying areas in many ways. The station plays a variety of music, airs public service messages for local non-profit organizations, offers a student broadcast program for middle and high school students, and more. A summary of KRVM’s community service can be found here.
