Karina’s first foray with a microphone, thanks to her father, was at a very young age!
She has always had music woven into her life from being exposed to tons of music through her early years from her father’s record collection … to her adult years, working as a concert producer, booking agent, and advocating for the arts in its many forms. Radio has been an integral part of her life since the 70’s when she worked with the Women’s Media Project on WMUA in Amherst, Massachusetts … then in Tucson, Arizona where she worked at KXCI community radio with a collective of women to establish the women’s program on that station. She also hosted a music mix or two during the week on KXCI.
Karina has been a programmer on KRVM since 1997 and has hosted numerous shows including Acoustic Junction, Routes & Branches, Miles of Bluegrass, Tupelo Honey, Music That Matters, and Women in Music, but her true love through it all is hosting Sounds Global. From years of traveling and experiencing various cultures around the world, she was naturally drawn to music wherever she went. Her passion for sharing the wide range of music from cultures around the world and reveling in the way that music crosses perceived boundaries and binds all humans together is what keeps her on the air.
When not doing radio, she is a multimedia artist who can also be found dabbling in wildlife advocacy, socializing feral felines, working in her garden…and listening to music constantly!
