Free Healthcare Event Still Needs Volunteers
September 21, 2017 @ 8:00 am - September 25, 2017 @ 5:00 pm
Impact Your Health, a community healthcare event that provides free dental, vision, and basic medical screenings and assistance, is actively looking for volunteers. The event takes place at the Lane Events Center September 24 and 25.
Event organizers still need nurses, dentists, hygienists, MDs, physicians’ assistants, eye doctors, opticians, and massage therapists—especially for Monday of the two-day event. Equipment will be provided. Many dental professionals can gain continuing education credits by volunteering for up to six hours on either day. Those wishing to volunteer can sign up at www.impactyourhealtheugene.org, or contact organizer Randy Meyer at 541-937-2786 or @..
“It takes about 300 volunteers to make this two-day annual event run smoothly,” says Meyer. “Those needing diabetes and blood pressure screenings, consultations with medical doctors, or free dental exams, cleanings, fillings, and extractions—as well as free eye exams and prescription eye glasses—are invited to Impact Your Health Eugene September 24 and 25.”
He adds that those who volunteer to give care go away as rewarded as those who receive it.
According to Meyer, Impact Your Health has helped people with a wide variety of needs, alleviated the unnecessary suffering and pain of infected teeth, given eye glasses to young students, helped homeless parents and frustrated vets with basic care, and directed people with substance abuse problems to the help they needed.
“Our clientele, who span a diversity of demographics, can receive what they so badly need and could never hope to pay for—free,” says lead organizer Randy Meyer. “For the past two years, hundreds of hopeful individuals have lined-up up early in the morning to receive essential medical attention to improve their health, give them hope, preserve their dignity, and change their lives in tangible ways.”
Since 2015 event organizers have delivered to an average of 800 area residents between $400,000 and $500,000 in free health care during a two-day event each year. This year the event will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. both days. The Lane County Commissioners have again donated the Lane County Fairgrounds Performance Hall for the event.
“Local eye doctors even provide a number of free cataract surgeries after the event. Several local massage therapists will also contribute free 15-minute chair massages. There will also be representatives from local drug and alcohol recovery support groups,” says Meyer. “Some clients have even gotten their derailed lives back on track by getting their health needs met and have gone on to get jobs.”
Caring Hands Worldwide, a local non-profit, in partnership with AMEN Medical Missionaries and the local Seventh-day Adventist churches sponsor and coordinate the event.
Those wishing to support Impact Your Health Eugene with a tax-deductible financial contribution can send one to Caring Hands Worldwide, P.O. Box 459, Lowell, OR 97452 or contribute securely online at www.caringhandsworldwide.org. Meyer says every contribution will receive a letter of gratitude and a receipt.
